As we head into the spring semester, we are looking forward to the many new opportunities that will help improve The Texas Iron Spikes.  We are excited about our new Spring Classic donation recipient, Special Olympics of Texas, and we have already made more progress in preparing for the Spring Classic than ever before.  All of our members are committed to our new recipient as well as going above and beyond what we have accomplished in the past.  
     Texas Iron Spikes also has a great group of officers this spring semester and they have great plans for improving Spikes’ reputation both on and off campus. We have plans in place that will increase our association with the baseball team so that the whole university will be able to recognize the Texas Iron Spikes.  Also, we are taking it upon ourselves this semester to promote Spikes outside of the university to help create a stronger and more recognized organization. 
     It is an honor and a privilege to be leading The Texas Iron Spikes into its next semester and it is amazing to see how far Spikes has come since I was a Rookie in fall 2006.  I look forward to helping Spikes reach its full potential and making its already bright future brighter.

     This semester will mark the first year that the proceeds from the Spring Classic Softball Tournament will go to the Special Olympics of Texas.  We are changing our donation recipient for several reasons.  First, the money we donate will have a much greater impact on Special Olympics of Texas as they are currently lacking sufficient funds and run solely on private donations.  Additionally, we are starting to build a great relationship with their organization and have sent many volunteers to their various local tournaments and events.  They have shown much more excitement and appreciation towards us than we experienced in the past and are looking forward to working with us well into the future.  This is just the beginning of an awesome opportunity to build a strong bond with an outstanding organization and we cannot wait to get the ball rolling.
