Athletics
In addition to our commitment to service, spirit, and social aspects at The University of Texas, Iron Spikes continue to hold one of the most active and outstanding athletic programs among UT organizations. Realizing the strengthened brotherhood, building of character, and the overall well-being that results from athletic competition, Spikes encourages and expects active participation of its members in sporting events of all types.
This active approach has rewarded the Texas Iron Spikes with numerous championships and a reputation as a respected athletic organization. Since our formation in 1994 we have earned titles not only from the University but from outside organizations as well. We are a constant threat in Intramural football, with a tradition in the playoffs and multiple championships. IM basketball and soccer have also landed us with numerous playoff births. However, our pride and joy are our softball teams where we are strong contenders for the Intramural Championships year in and year out.
Iron Spikes also attempt to assist the community and other UT organizations on campus by participating in almost every charity sporting event. Whatever sport it may be (softball, football, basketball, kickball, or volleyball, etc.) the Iron Spikes look forward to fielding a team. It is just one more way we strive to support our community while strengthening brotherhood.
Athletic Accolades:
- 2002, 2003, 2004 IM Softball Champions
- 2003, 2004, 2006 IM Soccer Champions
- Texas Dance Dodgeball Tournament, Kappa Delta Volleyball Tournaments
- Alpha Delta Pi Kickball*
- Joe Lagos IM Racquetball Champion 2005
Our athletic qualities also tie into the social and service aspects of our organization. We have coed teams in almost every sport allowing Spikes to build bonds every semester with numerous women ’s organizations on campus.
Also, every fall we host a baseball clinic for Austin I.S.D. students through the Neighborhood Longhorns Program. The clinics are hosted by the Iron Spikes and take place at Disch-Falk Field. The clinics focus on the basics of the sport and are followed by special appearances by UT baseball players and coaches.
