Social
Although founded on the principles of service in the community and devoted spirit to their school, many of the Texas Iron Spikes pride themselves on their ability to have a good time in the social arena. With an organization that requires each new member to meet and get to know each of its active members through Rookies Runs, the Iron Spikes are a very close-knit group. So in addition to attending baseball games and serving the community, the Iron Spikes relax through such activities as mixers, tailgates, bar tabs, parties, and road trips.
Examples of the Iron Spikes social calendar:
Sixth Street and Bourbon Street: The Iron Spikes have impressed the campus with their innovative bar building ideas. In the Fall of 2004, Sixth Street was constructed and 6 bars were built. Popular Austin pubs including Maggie Mae's, The Library, Logan's, Aquarium, Cheer's, and The Copper Tank were all bars built by Spikes. In the Spring of 2005, Spikes followed up the good times with Bourbon Street. The Famous New Orleans tradition was brought to Austin in March.
Mixers. Every semester the Iron Spikes look forward to partying it up with the likes of the Texas Lassos, Texas Lonestars, Texas Spirits, Texas Sweethearts, and both Greek and non-Greek organizations. Mixers can range from renting out party boats on Lake Travis to throwing a Temptation Island theme party. Mixers provide Spikes the opportunity to get to know girls from other organizations in a relaxed setting.
Texas/OU Weekend. Texas/OU weekend is always an unforgettable event during the fall semester. Spikes board buses to make the annual trip to Dallas, where we take the city by storm. The weekend is full of restaurants, bar tabs, and of course, the football game. Iron Spikes proudly represent UT all weekend long by heckling Sooner fans and singing "The Eyes of Texas" at restaurants and clubs.
Fall Casual/Spring Formal. Favorites in their respected semesters, both the Iron Spikes Fall Casual and Spring Formal provide the ultimate social setting for Spikes and their dates to party right. Past formals have traditionally taken place at Barr Mansion, a setting that Spikes are sure to remember for years to come.
Biannual Banquet at TheCounty Line . Held after Initiation, this event celebrates the close of the Rookie Semester. Rookies are now welcomed into the Iron Spikes as actives and are due a well-earned “congratulations” from each member. Also, awards are presented to the top performing members and officers of the semester. Graduating Spikes are presented with a gift as a symbol of appreciation for their dedication. Iron Spikes friends, family, and alumni are normally present to share in the closing of one era and beginning of another.
