Spirit

The word "spirit" has a special value for the Texas Iron Spikes. Throughout the course of the fall and spring semesters, Iron Spikes continue to participate in all activities that encourage spirit and pride in the University. The Texas Iron Spikes act as the official men's spirit group for the Texas Baseball team. The organization takes great pride in serving this role because of the incredible Longhorn baseball tradition. UT is a perennial powerhouse in the Big XII and ranks 3rd in the nation among regular season attendance.

Because of the intimate setting of the baseball diamond, opposing players and coaches are especially subject to hearing the heckling of the crowd. During each game, it is the goal of the Iron Spikes to make sure the UT Baseball team has the home field advantage.

While we are committed to disrupting the efforts of visiting teams and leading the home crowd in cheers, we also assist the baseball team by laying the tarp on the field during rain delays and after games. Before most Saturday home games, Iron Spikes can usually be found in the parking lot tailgating a few hours before the game. In addition, every season the Iron Spikes and "The Wild Bunch" plan a bus trip to watch the Horns take on TCU at the Ballpark in Arlington.

While we are the official male spirit group for the Texas Baseball team, football is king in Texas and our spirit at Longhorn football games is just as strong as on the diamond. There is a tailgate before every home football game where actives, and often Iron Spikes alumni, gather to prepare for the game. Iron Spikes also have block seating in the student section at DKR Memorial Stadium. We are also present at the Torch Light Parade and Hex Rally, events that are used to pump up the football team before the OU and A&M games. Texas/OU Weekend is also a yearly tradition in the fall that includes 3 days full of restaurants, bar tabs, and great football. As Iron Spikes, we strive to not only promote spirit within our organization, but throughout the entire University of Texas community.
